Congratulations Nintendo, for finally realizing what the rest of us knew two years ago. I absolutely love Nintendo. They basically invented the video game industry in the 80s, but they fell asleep at the switch in the late 90s, and almost became irrelevant. Then they took the world by storm with two amazing products, the DS and Wii. Now they are at risk again, because they ignored the threat from Apple. Nintendo led the “casual” game revolution, but Apple is now doing it better.
The iPod Touch is a killer portable game system, that also happens to be a great music and movie player, web browser, email client, social media hub, and video camera. It has great games, that can be downloaded with a single click. A significant number of those games are free or only cost 99 cents.
Nintendo’s current strategy is to keep innovating their hardware and UI, but they also have to compete with Apple on price and ease of use.
